Now it 's all over bar the announcement - Bob Paisley is to take over as manager of Liverpool Football Club from Bill Shankly. That's my reading of the situation as it stands now and Brian Clough is equally certain to succeed Don Revie as Leeds United manager, both teams will step out for the Charity Shield final, on August 10, in the charge of new managers.
To my knowledge, Paisley has been the only name given any serious consideration and it was because of this that applications for the post were never considered. Paisley professed complete surprise last night: "The board knew all along that I was prepared to accept any role they desired me to take, whether as manager or assistant to some other manager. That is still the position so long as the conditions are satisfactory. If I am asked to take over, the routine of the club would not change one iota."
