His amateur status allowed Kippax to represent Great Britain in the 1948 Olympics where he featured in three games for the international side that reached the semi-finals. The left-winger, who never signed professional forms for Liverpool, made just one appearance for Liverpool after joining the Reds a few days after his contract with his hometown club, Burnley, was cancelled. That one game was at home to Birmingham City in a first division fixture on 12 March 1949 which Liverpool won 1-0 with a Cyril Done goal. Billy Liddell had missed a penalty nine minutes earlier. Kippax made 21 appearances for Liverpool's reserve side, the final one being on 11 February 1950. While still on Liverpool's books, he started playing for Yorkshire amateurs, who he featured for until 1956.
