Sweet victory!

A sparkling display from former Luton player, Paul Walsh, who scored two goals and made the third, enabled Liverpool to secure three points on an afternoon when Manchester United won yet again, 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The Reds took the lead after 31 minutes when Molby turned the ball inside and Walsh took it forward before driving it beneath Sealey.

Four minutes later, Walsh struck again. Johnston hammered in a cross from the by-line and Walsh fired into the net from close range. Liverpool were completely dominant, Johnston causing Luton all sorts of problems.

Within seconds of the restart, Grobbelaar failed to hold a fine cross by Stein. Lawrenson was forced to concede a corner and when Grobbelaar again failed to clear, Foster hammered the loose ball into the net. Then Preece struck the bar with a fine shot and Liverpool suddenly found themselves in trouble.

Against the run of play, the Reds scored a third goal. Walsh was fouled just outside the penalty area and Molby drove the free-kick into the bottom of the net with deadly precision.

The game continued to flow from end to end, and in the 76th-minute, Harford scored and extraordinary goal with a shot from fully 30 yards that deceived Grobbelaar in its flight and went into the net off an upright. With only a few minutes to go, Whelan struck the bar with a header.
