Burnley sign Liverpool forward

To-day (Saturday) Burnley have a new inside-right on view at the Charlton Athletic ground. He is Edward Hancock, who was signed by the Turf Moor club from Liverpool on Thursday.

Twenty-one years of age, Hancock is a native of Denaby, and played for the colliery club, Denaby United, for six months before joining Gainsborough Trinity, the Midland League club from which Burn have secured several players in the past, including Herman Conway, the present senior goalkeeper.

Hancock was at Gainsborough six months before joining Liverpool in January, 1931. He is 5ft. 8in. in height, and weighs 11st 8lb.

There are encouraging reports of him from the Merseyside, and he has some reputation as a marksman. He made nine appearances with Liverpool’s first team last season, and has also deputies several times this season for the international inside-right, Gordon Hodgson.

He played with Liverpool against Middlesbrough on the day before he was fixed up by the Burnley manager, Mr. Tom Bromilow, who, as most Burnley people know, was a Liverpool player before entering management.

Hancock has not played in a Cup match with Liverpool, and is therefore eligible to play for Burnley in the fifth round.
