Liverpool's latest transfers: which players could tip the balance in the Premier League race?

Coach Arne Slot is comfortable with his team, featuring stars like Alexis Mac Allister, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Vijil Van Dijk spearheading Liverpool’s campaigns. Unfortunately, Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold are only months away from becoming free agents. That has left transfer rumors swirling over the last few weeks linking the Reds with potential signings.

Liverpool had a quiet summer and only made one permanent transfer after signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. Arne Slot’s side has until 3rd February to conclude their transfer business, but we’re yet to see whether Liverpool will go out of their way to sign an impactful player. The Reds can also wait until the summer to add new faces to their squad as they continue sorting out the future of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander Arnold.

But with plans underway to revitalize the team that Arne Slots received from Jurgen Klopp, several players are linked with a move to Liverpool. Here are the top players who the CheekyPunter team believes could tip the balance in Liverpool’s EPL campaign.

Liverpool eyes Kimmich move

As long as Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn’t renewed his contract, his future with the Reds remains uncertain. Rumors linking him to a move to Real Madrid have also left Liverpool searching for a replacement. The talented right-back might be a Liverpool academy graduate and boyhood fan, but his game finesse might be better appreciated in La Liga. The Spanish giants submitted a £20 bid for him, although Liverpool rejected their initial offer.

Now the Premier League outfit is reportedly considering a move for Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich as Alexander-Arnold’s replacement. Kimmich is a top midfielder, but can also perform as a right-back. The German International’s current deal with Bayern will expire in June and the Reds are free to negotiate a pre-contract deal.

Rayan Cherki a potential Salah replacement

Mohamed Salah’s situation is similar to Alexander-Arnold's. The departure of the Egyptian King after the expiry of his contract this summer will significantly impact Liverpool’s EPL race if he doesn’t renew his deal. While Salah has reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool amid whispers linking to a move to La Liga, the Reds need to have a replacement ready.

Versatile Lyon attacker Rayan Cherki fits well in Liverpool’s transfer market plans as they are unlikely to get an elite, world-class player like Salah. Cherki is a bargain option for the Reds, although his value increased recently after improving significantly this season. The debt-ridden Lyon have been hesitant to trade Cherki this January, but they might change their mind should Liverpool formalize their interest with an official offer.
Will Liverpool make any major signings in January?

After missing midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Liverpool manager Arne Slot doesn’t expect to bring in any major players to Anfield. The Reds are currently laying down the foundation for holding midfield and full-back signing this summer. Slot claims there’s no urgency to make critical signings and is set to revamp his team in the summer transfer window.
