Jurgen Klopp's Funniest Anfield Moments

After a nine-year reign at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp graciously bowed out of his managerial duties for Liverpool Football Club in May of this year.

With Klopp at the helm, Liverpool consistently defied the odds, securing impressive wins and leaving bookmakers and online betting sites scrambling to adjust their predictions. (Without Klopp and with Arne Slot now in charge, Liverpool are currently 13/2 to win the 2024/2025 Premier League, but it's still very, very early days when it comes to gambling on the team next season.)

His departure undoubtedly leaves a void for those who enjoyed wagering on the charismatic German's strategic prowess. But it wasn't just his trophy wins that made him a firm favourite with Liverpool supporters: his sense of humour won him legions of fans across the world, too.

Need a laugh? Here are seven of his funniest moments at Anfield for your enjoyment.

The Erotic Translator

In 2018, before a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, he playfully complimented the translator's voice, adding a lighthearted moment to the otherwise serious press briefing.

"That's a very erotic voice, by the way, from the translator", Klopp noted with surprise after hearing the question put to him.

"Wow.

"Again please!" he asked of the (male) translator.

F***ing Mentality Giants

After Liverpool's stunning comeback victory over Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final, Jurgen Klopp's emotions ran high during the post-match interview. Overwhelmed by his team's performance, he exclaimed, "It's 10 past 10... most of the children are probably in bed, but these boys are f***ing mentality giants, it's unbelievable."

The network quickly censored the expletive, but Klopp, aware of his slip, humorously responded, "Fine me if you want. I'm not native so I don't have better words!"

Brain Fart... or Something Else?

And then there was the time he wanted to say "brain fart" but it sounded more like "brain..." followed by the aforementioned four-letter expletive, much to the groans and laughter of those around him. Once again he blamed it on translation issues.

"To my ears, it sounds exactly the same." Hmmm.

Six, Baby

Well-known for his charismatic personality, Klopp showed a cheeky side after winning his first Champions League title as a coach. In a post-match interview, he lightheartedly broke into song, adapting the lyrics of Salt-N-Pepa's "Let's Talk About Sex."

"Let's talk about six, baby.

"Let's talk about you and me.

"Let's talk about all the good things and the bad things, that may be.

"Let's talk about SIX."

Six, and not, in fact, sex, was in reference to Liverpool's sixth European Champions League title.

In a conversation with BT Sport's Des Kelly, Klopp admitted to already feeling the effects of the post-match celebrations, saying, "It's 20 minutes after the game - already half pissed - but I think I should get a water."

Hearty Celebrations... and a Hamstring Injury

In last year's dramatic encounter between Liverpool and Tottenham, emotions ran high, especially after Diogo Jota's last-minute winning goal. Jurgen Klopp, in his typical passionate manner, sprinted down the touchline to celebrate with the fourth official. However, his exuberance was short-lived as he suddenly pulled up with a hamstring injury, forcing him to limp back to the bench.

Klopp ended up receiving a yellow card along with his muscle injury.

Lucas' Laughable Shot

During a Merseyside derby in 2016, a moment of levity arose from an unexpected source. Liverpool player Lucas Leiva, known more for his defensive prowess than his goal-scoring abilities, attempted a shot from a distance that went awry. Instead of the usual frustration or disappointment, Jurgen Klopp burst into laughter, sharing the humorous moment with his coaching staff.

This unexpected reaction - caught on camera for our viewing pleasure - became a hysterical highlight of the match, and perfectly summed up Klopp's ability to find humour just about anywhere.

The Lost Wedding Ring

After Liverpool's home victory against Newcastle in January, Klopp was captured passionately celebrating with the Anfield crowd. Suddenly, he abruptly stopped and looked down at the pitch, causing concern among commentators, including Jamie Carragher, who speculated about a potential injury, that pesky hamstring.

However, it quickly became apparent that Klopp had merely dropped his wedding ring in the midst of the celebrations. He retraced his steps and, with the help of a steward, retrieved the ring, kissing it in relief. This humorous incident added a lighthearted touch to the post-match celebrations and showed Jurgen's sentimental side, as he visibly cherished his wedding band.

His wife Ulla must have been delighted.
