What Liverpool players will be doing in the international break
Club football has taken a back seat for a fortnight as the first international break of 2024 is upon us, with a host of Liverpool first-team stars set to represent their countries.
Jurgen Klopp's side could use this break to regroup following a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat to old foes Manchester United in last week's FA Cup quarter-final tie.
Klopp held no resentment against his men after the Old Trafford heartache. Au contraire, he hailed the team's effort during his post-match interview with Liverpool.com.
Despite bowing out of football's oldest cup competition, the Reds could still win a coveted 'Treble' this season after conquering the League Cup in February.
We're still well-positioned in a fiercely-contested Premier League title race, while lifting the Europa League title would be Klopp's parting gift to the Kop, considering it's the only title he's failed to win at Anfield.
Liverpool fans who favour online gaming will be able to take the opportunity in international break to switch away from football and play on popular online casinos such as the PowerPlay live casino or to play Blackjack. However, if you are all in on international football and more importantly, want to keep track of what the Reds are doing over the next two weeks, let’s see who’s playing when and where.
List of Liverpool players involved in March's international break
England
Joe Gomes returns to the England national team after a four-year hiatus.
The 26-year-old has taken full advantage of Trent Alexander-Arnold's absence and Andy Robertson's lengthy spell on the sidelines to re-establish himself as a permanent first-team fixture at Anfield.
Gareth Southgate has duly rewarded Gomez's consistency and ability to play anywhere along the back four after injuries to Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier, Reece James, and Luke Shaw depleted his options.
Oddly enough, he's the only Liverpool player called up to feature for England in the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley.
Netherlands
In addition to the Reds captain Virgil van Dijk, the Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has included Cody Gakpo in his squad for a pair of friendlies against Scotland and Germany.
Despite blowing hot and cold since the calendar flipped to 2024, the ex-PSV Eindhoven forward has retained his status inside the Dutch dressing room.
Scotland
Van Dijk and Gakpo will be up against their Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson when the Netherlands take on Scotland at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on March 22.
Robertson last played for the Tartan Army in a 2024 European Championship qualifier against Spain in October 2023, when he suffered a shoulder injury after a nasty collision with Unai Simon.
Northern Ireland
Liverpool's Dutchmen are not the only clubmates Robertson will face this month as Scotland host Conor Bradley's Northern Ireland in Glasgow four days after their trip to Amsterdam.
France
Ibrahima Konate continues to play a prominent role in Klopp's defensive set-up.
His impressive Premier League form has compelled Didier Deschamps to make him part of his star-studded France side for exciting friendlies against Germany and Chile.
Hungary
One of Liverpool's best-performing midfielders is Dominik Szoboszlai, and it's no surprise he'll skipper Hungary in home friendlies against Turkey and Kosovo.
Republic of Ireland
Alisson's injury has led to the emergence of Caoimhin Kelleher as a reliable option between the sticks.
The hero of Liverpool's League Cup triumph against Chelsea has already touched down in Dublin to prepare for back-to-back home matches against Belgium and Switzerland.
Greece
While for most of the Reds, this international break serves as an opportunity to relax from competitive action, left-back Kostas Tsimikas can't rest easy.
He'll be one of Greece's standout first-team stars when they take on Kazakhstan in the play-off semi-finals on March 21, hoping to lead his country to the finals.
Argentina
Moving outside the continent, Alexis Mac Alister reunites with reigning world champions Argentina in the United States as Lionel Scaloni's men face El Salvador and Costa Rica in low-profile exhibition matches.
Colombia
Another South American ace plying his trade at Anfield has taken off for international duties, with Luis Diaz joining the Colombia squad set to lock horns with Spain and Romania.
Japan
Wataru Endo's Japan will engage in the 2026 World Cup qualifying double-header against Korea DPR, looking to make amends for a dismal Asian Cup campaign.
