Goals, Appearances, Trophies, Assists – Liverpool's Champions League Record Holders

It’s that time of year again. When it comes to deciding the elite in football, there’s nothing better than the Champions League.
This is the league where the best in Europe battle it out, deciding once and for all who can call themselves champions. At least until another year goes by and they have to start battling it out again!

For Liverpool fans, however, this year is going to be slightly different. Liverpool has had to take a step back, as for the first time since 2015/16 we have failed to even qualify, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not one of the best teams in Europe. It wasn’t long ago that Liverpool lifted the coveted trophy and they have a rejuvenated side.

This can be as good a time as any by looking back at our Champions League records:

The Trophies

So far, Liverpool are joint third on trophies won in the UEFA Champions League. The first came all the way back in 1977 when Kenny Dalglish booted the ball into the back of the net to single- handedly put our hands on the coveted trophy. We then won it the year after that, in 1978, and then again in 1981, 1984, and in our recent memories, I am sure we can all remember rushing around for UEFA tickets, before Liverpool both incredible 2005, and 2019 final wins.

The Goal Scorers

If there’s one thing that Liverpool has got 100% right in the last decade, it’s the signing of Mo Salah back in 2017. Few knew what his impact would be when pen hit paper, but it surely surpassed everyone's expectations. Of course, he’s the leading goal scorer in the Champions League. With 41 goals scored, he nearly doubles the second-best scorer, Sadio Mane, who sits behind him on 24.

The Assisters

Assists in football are just as important as the actual goal scored, and it’s never taken for granted. That’s why we’re taking this opportunity to celebrate… oh, Mo Salah. Yep, not only has Salah scored 41 goals, but he’s also carried out 13 assists, drawing in first place with James Milner.

The Appearances

When it comes to celebrating the most appearances, that accolade goes to the great Jamie Carragher, who has stepped out in red for 91 Champions League games in total. Behind him is Steven Gerrard on 87, and John Arne Riise on 68. All of them have had incredible shifts and have helped us move closer to Champions League glory.
