Liverpool’s greatest games under Jurgen Klopp

The Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool, where to start? From an emotional farewell at Borussia Dortmund to stepping into what seemed like a poisoned chalice for so long at Anfield, Klopp dubbed himself the ‘normal one’ and hasn’t looked back since, winning the club’s sixth Champions League, before their first-ever Premier League title.

A Below Par Season

Even whilst Liverpool continue to endure a campaign of struggle, it’s worth remembering the historic days under the lights on the red half of Merseyside. Perhaps it’s worth noting, too, that this side rarely gives up, and although some football betting tips will have the Reds as outsiders when it comes to finishing inside the Premier League’s top four, Liverpool at 11/4 to earn a Champions League place reflects that their battle is far from lost just yet.
With that being said, we’ve looked back at Liverpool’s greatest games under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United - 2019/20

The possibility of Liverpool winning the Premier League title before the 19/20 campaign was just a dream that had yet to come true for fans. Yet, when Mohamed Salah raced away, shrugged off Daniel James, and finished past David de Gea, before wheeling away in sheer, unbridled joy to seal all three points against Manchester United in January 2020, Anfield finally believed. Finally, they knew that this was it, this was the season, the victory they had been longing for.
One of the most special games under Klopp at Anfield, a historic Liverpool side cemented themselves among true greats in that same season.

Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City - 2017/18

Some will draw on the fact that Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Manchester City in the 17/18 season didn’t result in a trophy, but it remains one of the most important days under Klopp. It was a victory that set the tone and got the wheels in motion for a side that would go on to provide Pep Guardiola with arguably his toughest competitor.

This was Klopp’s Liverpool at their electric, heavy metal best, as they ended City’s hopes of invincibility and sent a damning statement about what was to come.

Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona - 2018/19

Liverpool’s semi-final comeback against Barcelona in 2019 isn’t just one of the greatest games in Klopp’s tenure, it’s one of the greatest games in Champions League history. Blown away at the Nou Camp, courtesy of some vintage Lionel Messi magic, Liverpool never should have stood a chance in the second leg.

Yet, low and behold, even with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah forced to watch on from the stands, one corner taken quickly to Divock Origi handed Anfield its most impressive miracle yet.
There will undoubtedly be more to come from Klopp’s Liverpool side, too, even throughout the beginning of what looks like the next chapter in the German’s historic time in charge. Just this season, we saw a preview of the great days to come, as the Reds put seven past a Manchester United side supposedly superior under Erik ten Hag. If that preview is anything to go by, Liverpool have got plenty of heavy metal football left to play.
