Liverpool Issue Reminder To Rivals After Manchester United Thrashing

Records tumbled as Liverpool enjoyed an evening to remember as they secured a historic 7-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield.
While earning three points and claiming the well-deserved bragging rights, Jürgen Klopp’s side also put out a reminder that despite their troubles this season, they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Liverpool Looked Like Themselves Once Again

The Reds’ struggles at times this season have been well documented but their win over United on March 5 was a flashback to the Liverpool the footballing world has come to expect over the past few years. The Reds, who are evens at https://www.paddypower.com/football to finish in the top four this season, showed a glimpse earlier in the campaign with a 9-0 win over Bournemouth back in August. However, this 7-0 win was against a United side that had been showing title promise but after their humiliation at Anfield went to 30/1 in the Premier League football betting to be crowned champions this season. It was a bizarre contest on Merseyside with the scorelines goalless heading into the 43rd minute before the opener for the hosts.

The second half was a different story altogether, as Liverpool’s confidence grew, United crumbled under the pressure at Anfield. Two goals just after the break put the result to bed and the Red Devils left Merseyside with their first 7-0 defeat since losing to Wolverhampton Wanderers back in December 1931, as reported on at www.bbc.com/sport/football. While United boss Erik ten Hag has the challenge of getting his troops back on their feet, Klopp will be looking at ways to build this team’s confidence for the remainder of the campaign.

Salah Reaches Landmark Total

It was a great night for the whole Liverpool squad but for one man in particular it was an even more memorable occasion. Mohamed Salah bagged himself a brace at Anfield to move on to 129 Premier League goals and, as confirmed by Lfchistory.net and www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football, surpassed the record of Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler. Salah has had his critics at times this season but he has still scored 11 league goals in his first 25 league games of the campaign. Such are the standards the Egyptian international has set himself at Liverpool, even a slight dip in form seems to attract heavy criticism.

A scintillating performance from Salah against United was another reminder the 30-year-old is one of the best forwards in the world and not just the Premier League. Having been forced to play catch-up after a winless run in January, Liverpool’s bid to finish in the top four was given a significant boost with that rout over United. Salah looks set to play a key role if the Reds are to beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United to that fourth spot.
The win over the Red Devils will have brought the feel-good factor back to Anfield and gives Klopp’s players and the wider Premier League a reminder of just what they are capable of when they get going.
