Although the Nations League campaign ended with total disappointment for England and manager Gareth Southgate with their Group relegation,
England are progressing well right now at the first ever winter World Cup out in Qatar.
This years tournament has taken a bit to get used to given the temperatures at play and the obvious disruption that the domestic 2022/23 Premier League campaign has seen to enable the competition to take place in the first place, and pundits in the wider world of football have had plenty to discuss and chew over, and former international Trevor Sinclair did just that as he sat down with
Betway Insider for a recent interview.
Whilst it was not an exactly spectacular Group B battle for Southgate's charges, a 6-2 victory over Iran in the opening clash, was followed by a very disappointing draw with the United States - qualification through to the knockout stages was secured with a 3-0 home Nations victory over Wales.
Having taken a 3-0 victory over Senegal at the Round of 16 stage, England are now preparing for what will be an incredibly tough battle against reigning World Cup champions, France.
One player who has certainly caught the eye has been former Birmingham City Academy graduate, and now Borussia Dortmund talent
Jude Bellingham. The 19 year old youngster has long been linked with a move back to England given his additional development out in the German Bundesliga, and whilst the World Cup has progressed, he has become even more of a favourite on the transfer rumour mill, and Liverpool are naturally one of the clubs linked with having an interest.
The sticking point could well be Dortmund's preferred valuation in order for a deal to be done, which is speculated to be in the region of £150 to £175 million.
Sinclair said of the transfer interest shown in him, that he expected clubs to move soon for his services.
"Yeah, very soon. I think he’ll stay in January. Borussia Dortmund tend to stick strong and do their business when they can get the best fee possible in the summer market. But in the summer, I do expect a £150-175m kind of fee to be spent on him."
Given the plethora of clubs apparently showing an interest, he does feel it will be an uphill battle for Liverpool, but they could have a card up their sleeve.
"Barcelona, I’m not so sure, because they already have Gavi and Pedri in those positions, but virtually every other massive club will want him. Real Madrid, for sure, and
Liverpool, who have been heavily linked. He obviously has that great relationship with Jordan Henderson, which might give them an advantage. But you look at Man City, where there might be some movement out in midfield this summer, and I think he could slot into that team really well. Pep knows what he wants from his players technically and tactically, he knows how he wants his players to play, and I think Bellingham brings everything that he would want. He’s got defensive qualities, he’s got that passing range and he’s got the ability to get all over the pitch. I can see him at City, for sure."
With the January window almost here, we will find out if Sinclair is right about the potential for a summer move.
