No player in Premier League history has scored more goals in a 38 game season than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian winger’s record under threat by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
As the matches from the current season begin to pick up pace, keep up to date with all the latest Liverpool statistics, news and live scores via the Flashscore app and website.
Salah’s tally of 32 goals in the 2017/18 campaign remains the record for a Premier League season, but who has topped the Liverpool goalscorer list in the years since.
Starting with Salah’s historic return from 2017/18, where a final day strike against Brighton & Hove Albion ensured the recent Liverpool arrival would surpass former Reds forward Luis Suarez for the most goals in a 38 game season.
A dazzling Salah tormented defences throughout the 2017/18 campaign on his way to the 32 goal tally, scoring for free off that right-hand side, as the Liverpool faithful fell in love with their newly crowned Egyptian King.
Perhaps the highlight of Salah’s Premier League campaign being his four-goal return against Watford, where the winger contributed to all five of Liverpool’s goals against the Hornets in a performance for the ages.
Having set the world alight the previous season, Salah would fall 10 goals short of his record-breaking haul in 2018/19, but was joined by teammate Sadio Mane as the deadly duo topped the Premier League top scorer chart.
The pair’s return of 22 goals for the campaign helped Liverpool to their highest league finish in five years, as the Reds missed out on their maiden Premier League crown on the final day.
For Mane, a double against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last game of the season equalled Salah’s tally of 22 goals, with the pair also sharing the Golden Boot with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
A season that will live long in the memory for the Reds, Salah once again finished the campaign as Liverpool’s top scorer, as his 19 goals helped fire the club to a historic Premier League title win.
While his 2019/20 tally may be his lowest in the Premier League since arriving at Liverpool, its significance cannot be underestimated, as Jurgen Klopp’s side cruised to their first title since the 1989/90 season.
As had been the case in the campaign prior to 2019/20, Salah shared the goals with fellow forward Mane, with the Senegalese netting 18 goals for the Premier League campaign.
A season to forget for many Liverpool fans, given what happened on the pitch, but it didn’t stop the prolific Salah from notching up another impressive tally of 22 goals in the league.
Somewhat singlehandedly dragging Liverpool through their injury crisis and into fourth spot, Salah fell one goal short of yet another Premier League Golden Boot triumph.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane finished the campaign with 23 goals to his name, meaning Salah had to settle for second place in the top scorers standings.
And for last season? Well, you guessed it. Another high-scoring campaign for Liverpool’s talisman, who this time would end with the Golden Boot to show for his efforts.
Locked head-to-head with City in a title battle for the ages, a dominative Salah showed his class once more, netting 23 goals to tie the Golden Boot with Tottenham’s Son Heung-min.
There may not have been a second Premier League title in three years to show for his efforts, but Mohamed Salah was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year to cap off a monumental campaign in red, which saw Liverpool play every single game available to them at the beginning of the season.
