As one of the most prominent football clubs globally, Liverpool was home to some of the best footballers in the history of the game. This is one of the teams that have the most loyal fans in the world, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the club also has loyal players.
With that being said, let’s take a look at five footballers who have the most appearances for the club.
1. Ian Callaghan
The first name on this list is Ian Callaghan, a player that’s been a part of Liverpool for more than 18 years (1960-1978). He was brought to the team by Bill Shankly, one of the most iconic managers in football.
During his career, Callaghan played 857 matches and had a key role in the team’s success. Needless to say, he won loads of trophies and was even voted as the FWA Footballer of the Year back in 1974.
2. Jamie Carragher
The second person that we have to include is the legendary Jamie Carragher. This incredible player is known as the “one-club man” because he was always a part of Liverpool. People who’ve checked the Betfred offers
back in the days probably remember that Carragher helped them a lot in their betting endeavor because he was always performing really well for his club.
Jamie played 737 games for this team, which is really impressive. His debut took place in 1996-1997 as a full-back, but after Rafael Benitez’s arrival, he started to play as a center-back. Carragher made his first-team debut against Middlesbrough back in 1997, when the manager of the club was Roy Evans.
3. Steven Gerrard
Even though every player on this list is fantastic, if there is one name that stands out, it has to be Steven Gerrard. Arguably one of the best English footballers of all time, the central midfielder made his debut for Liverpool back in 1998. Since then, he played in 710 games and helped his team get treble in 2000-2001. Moreover, he also had a key role in one of the most memorable CL finals known as the Miracle of Istanbul.
Apart from his incredible skills, Gerrard is also famous for his leadership abilities, which is why he was Liverpool’s captain for many years. Unfortunately, he never managed to win the Premier League.
4. Ray Clemence
The next footballer on this list is a goalkeeper who was signed by Bill Shankly in 1967 from Scunthorpe United. One of the most exciting things about this player is that he has more than 1000 career appearances, and 665 of them are for Liverpool.
Sadly, Clemence passed away
at the age of 72.
5. Emlyn Hughes
This player also has 665 matches for the Reds, and he also joined the club under Bill Shankly. The transfer took place in February of 1967 after Hughes played 28 games for Blackpool. Interestingly, the club paid around 65,000 GBP for him, equivalent to more than one million pounds in today’s money.
Emlyn Hughes won several titles throughout his career and was even the team’s captain.
