Which are Liverpool’s most impressive victories over Manchester United?

In addition to being some of the best teams in the world, Liverpool and Manchester United are also among the most prominent football rivals. We’ve seen many epic clashes between the two over the years, but in this article, we’d like to show you Liverpool’s most impressive victories against their rivals.

16 December 2018 

Besides the 2-0 victories in 2019, the Reds’ most recent impressive performance took place on 16 December 2018. People who’ve used the bonus for Betwinner during that time were more than happy because Liverpool managed to win against their opponents easily.

The star of the show was Xherdan Shaqiri, who managed to score two goals and helped his team get back to the top of the table. The other goalscorer for Liverpool was Sadio Mane, who gave the lead in the first half.

The next match that every Merseyside fan will remember was in 2016 when Liverpool had one of their strongest campaigns in years. Back then, United was not doing that well under David Moyes, which is why Liverpool had little to no trouble winning against Manchester’s lineup.

The living legend Steve Gerrard scored two penalties, and he even missed one later on. The third goal was scored by Luis Suarez, who was in excellent form back then. The 0-3 loss for Manchester United at Old Trafford is something that fans will never forget.

2009 was an exciting year for Liverpool because the team achieved some of their most impressive victories yet. After defeating Real Madrid at Anfield, Rafael Benitez and his team traveled to Old Trafford, where they had to face the leaders in the league - Man Utd. 

Even though Cristiano Ronaldo was a part of the Red Devils back then, he could not stop Merseyside from decimating their opponents. Some people think that this is Sir Alex Ferguson’s most painful defeat.

4 November 2001

Manchester United and Liverpool met two times in 2001, and both matches went in favor of the Reds. The second one was definitely more interesting to watch because Liverpool hadn’t lost a game against their rivals in the last three meetings between them.

Following the Charity Shield victory, Merseyside managed to score three goals, thanks to Michael Owen and John Arne Riise. The Norwegian superstar scored one of the most impressive free-kicks in the world.

16 September 1990

Finally, we have another historic win, which every Liverpool fan will remember because the team scored four goals. The most memorable thing about this match was Peter Beardsley, who managed to score a hat-trick against the Red Devils.

Liverpool were the reigning champions at that time, thanks to Kenny Dalglish, who had massive success as a manager.
