10 Smicer releases Michael Owen in the penalty area, but the 21-year-old's first touch lets him down, allowing Reina to smother the ball.

43 A penalty is awarded to Liverpool after Kluivert handles the ball from a McAllister corner.

Half-time: Liverpool 1 Barcelona 0 Gary McAllister, fresh from scoring the equaliser in the Merseyside derby, gave Liverpool a tremendous boost on the stroke of the interval after a first-half of great quality. There were chances for both sides in the opening period, but Kluivert's error gave the home-side the break they needed, setting up a mouth-watering second-half. With the onus now on Barcelona - who have come from behind to draw their last two games - to attack, anything could happen.

46 Barcelona start the second period and immediately put pressure on Liverpool. Patrick Kluivert shoots across the face of goal, with Luis Enrique unmarked six-yards out. A sign of things to come?

The 1-0 aggregate victory was built on towering defensive performance, epitomized by the efforts of Sami Hyypia and Stephane Henchoz, whose team have conceeded just one goal over six games against Roma, Porto and Barcelona. Liverpool will face Alaves in the Uefa Cup Final in Dortmund on May 16.
