Liverpool help Everton to the title!
Football is finishing in a fluster and fury. Its pages right up to the last point are crammed with interest. The season has virtually finished, but there’s much to interest an amuse. First Liverpool, by beating Oldham, have brought the League Championship to Goodison Park. Everton have waited for 24 years for a return of this honour, and now they must be very thankful to Burnley and Liverpool for coming to their aid, when Easter matches had been lost at Goodison Park. We had a lot of talk last week in this column about “a handsome score.” It was declared that Oldham would need to win by a very handsome score if they were to top Everton on goals. Liverpool supplied the link, however, and it was Liverpool who put up the handsome score. Pagnam scoring twice.
Everton’s players and officials were present at the Cup-tie, and naturally they showed the greatest delight when they heard the good news from Oldham. However, all the players were of one mind; they were anxious that goal-average should not be their margin over Oldham, and tonight, when the Cup finalists Chelsea, play at Walton, Everton will be all out for a solid victory over their conquerors in the Cup.
