Old one-two from Hunt

A three goal punch flattened Ipswich before the interval.

Ipswich's more skilful football might have paid better dividends than Liverpool's bustling style if they had matched the Reds' final punch.

Liverpool inside-right Hunt scored twice in five minutes but left-back Moran takes most of the credit for the first.

From his dash upfield, the ball was swept out to Morris on the right wing. Moran followed up to head the centre on to Hunt who jabbed the ball into the net from the underside of the bar.

Hunt got the second with a powerful 20-yard drive from left-half Campbell's pass. Hickson got the third seconds before half-time, crashing the ball in during a hectic scramble.

Unlucky Hickson

Ipswich still played some attractive football in the second half, and got a deserved goal two minutes from the end from centre-half Crawford.

Hickson was given little scope by centre-half Nelson, but he seemed unlucky not to score when he got the ball into the net in the first half after dispossessing the goalkeeper, only to be penalised for a foul.

Nelson was a great figure in the Ipswich defence, although his job was made harder when his attack-minded wing halves Ellsworthy and Pickett were sometimes caught out of position.
