Latchford nets - Then Liverpool hit back
Birmingham City went close to gaining their first league win of the season as St Andrews this afternoon.
Bob Latchford shot them ahead, but the League Champions snatched an equaliser just before time.
Birmingham were soon under pressure. Cormack penetrated on the right and when Brownbill, making his first appearance for Liverpool, headed the ball backwards Hynd cleared just in time.
As the ball bobbed across the Liverpool goalmouth, Lloyd headed clear from Bob Latchford. The pace and determination of Birmingham did not allow Liverpool to slip into their normal stride, and they were reasonably content to conduct a holding operation for the time being.
City came close when a header from Bob Latchford sent the ball just over the bar. Then Emlyn Hughes had to concede a corner to keep out Bob Hatton.
After 30 minutes Liverpool let slip a fine chance. Boersma outpaced two Birmingham defenders down the centre, but Dave Latchford came quickly out of goal and parried the shot.
Birmingham took the lead in the 65th minute through Bob Latchford. He raced away to beat Clemence with a full-blooded shot.
Hall grabbed the Liverpool equaliser four minutes from time.
