Birchenall pegs back Liverpool

John Toshack headed Liverpool ahead, but blond Alan Birchenall equalised for the home side's third draw in three outings.

Lloyd and Stringfellow figured in an exciting race back to Clemence.

Toshack out-jumped young Munro to head wide. In a home raid, the ball was pushed through to Stringfellow but Clemence pushed away the rising drive.

Hughes replied with a typical hammer blow for Liverpool saved by Shilton. Liverpool kept applying pressure with only occasional relief for City.

Liverpool, for all their energetic action, fizzled out badly against the close-marking home defenders. The Stringfellow was laid out for several minutes before recovering. Just after this, he made a thrilling midfield dash only to be sent spinning by lloyd's tackle from the back. Referee Smith had no hesitation in booking Lloyd.

In the 50th minute, a crossfield move saw City go behind. The ball swung in from the left, reaching Cormack, who returned it for Toshack to head an easy goal.

Birchenall equalised for Leicester after 70 minutes.
