Pierce saves Wolves from hammering
Liverpool were the first to build a dangerous attack when Callaghan latched on to a loose ball. He carried it forward to the edge of the Wolves' area before hitting a tremendous left-foot drive which Pierce did well to hold.
Case forced a magnificent diving save from Pierce, then McAlle got in a tangle in his own penalty area but Hall was unable to find Keegan with his centre.
The home side were unlucky not to take the lead with two fine attempts just before halftime. Callaghan had a cracking shot deflected for a corner and then Cormack taking advantage of a neat chip forward by Neal, had a header tipped over.
After Bailey surprised Clemence with a chip shot, Liverpool again seized the initiative after the restart.
After 61 minutes they took the lead. A Case corner was nodded goalward by Toshack and the unmarked Hall headed in. Seventeen minutes later Jimmy Case added a second for Liverpool.
