Norwich were considered small fry in these days and were never expected to come to Liverpool and knock the Reds out of the competition. But this is what they did. We were beaten 3-2, but, oh, the goals which the Canaries got! The first was from a penalty, which should not have been given by Percy Saul.
Strange disappearance of a player
Percy seemed to lose his head after giving away the penalty. He could do nothing right. He also lost the second and third goals through slackness, and many unkind things were said by the spectators that day. I felt a bit sorry for Percy, but all the same time I was also angry, for we lost a Cup-tie we ought never to have been lost.
The strange thing about this game was that Percy Saul had just prior to this been made captain and the Norwich match was his last, for he never kicked another ball for Liverpool. His strange disappearance certainly caused a few tongues to wag!
