He's our Mr consistent, a defensive gladiator who gives 100 per cent week in, week out and a man the fans claim could form a team all on his own.
But what do the statistics say about a player supporters have dubbed 23 Carra gold?
Liverpoolfc.tv reveals all...
A TEAM OF CARRAGHERS
Okay, so he hasn't quite covered every position on the park but he's not far off. He's featured right across the back four and the midfield, but with just the four goals in his Reds career to date, he's unlikely to trouble Fernando Torres as the team's main goal-getter!
Here is a breakdown of his performances per game in each position.
Centre back: 247 (49.4 per cent)
Right Back: 119 (23.8)
Left back: 74 (14.8)
Centre midfield: 40 (8)
Left midfield: 1 (0.2)
Right midfield: 1 (0.2)
Substitute: 18 (3.6)
DISCIPLINE
For a defender who has a reputation for last-ditch challenges and no-nonsense defending, Jamie's record is quite remarkable. In 11 years with the club he has only been sent for an early bath on two occasions and in all that time he has picked up just 66 yellow cards. That's an average of a booking every seven or eight games.
Yellow cards: 66
Red Cards: 2
CAPTAIN CARRA
For many fans Carra is the quintessential captain. He has an infectious personality, an unquenchable thirst to win football matches, and of course, the distinctive voice to give his teammates a rollicking when required. Indeed, while Stevie G can inspire by example, Carra is the man whose cries from the back are essential in helping to organise the team.
As Liverpool's vice captain, he is the one we call upon when Gerrard is unavailable, and whenever he has worn the skipper's armband he has rewarded us with an impressive ratio of victories.
Captain: 28 times
Wins: 18 (64.2)
Draws: 5 (17.9)
Defeats: 5 (17.9)
CENTRE BACK
Prior to the beginning of the 2004/05 season Carra had still to assume a position he could rightly call his own. He had evolved from a midfielder into a player who could do a job for the side in the full-back positions, but he had yet to truly settle into what could be called a defining starting place. However, the arrival of Rafa Benitez and the demise of the Hyypia-Henchoz partnership saw him given the chance to showcase his talents at the heart of the defence... and he has never looked back. Since August 2004 he has featured 188 times at centre back and, as you can see, the Reds' record isn't bad at all.
