A record fee to bring Goddard to Anfield
That Liverpool are seriously alarmed by their lowly and un-favourable position in the League is shown by the payment of one of the largest transfers fees on record for Arthur Goddard, the brilliant outside right of Glossop.
It is some weeks since negotiations were first opened up with Mr. Tom Watson, and both at that time and since it is no secret that at least four other prominent clubs made overtures to Mr. Oliver and his fellow directors.
It was thought at one time that it would end in Goddard going to Nottingham Forest, but the shrewd gentlemen who manage the Liverpool club clinched the matter on Monday last, just too late, however, to allow of Goddard taking part in tomorrow’s game at Anfield.
