Sammy Lee for England
Sammy Lee has been handed a coaching role with the England senior squad.
Following Steve McLaren's departure from the international set-up, Lee has been promoted to work alongside Peter Taylor and Dave Sexton as back-up to manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Lee, who has been working with the England under-21 squad, said: "It is a great honour for me personally and for Liverpool Football Club."
Houllier said: "I am pleased and proud for him. To work for the national side is always a great experience. He is a marvellous coach full of fire and enthusiasm."
England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is looking forward to working closely with Lee. He said: "It's great news that Sammy is joining us. He has great experience through his time with the under-21 side and also with Liverpool.
"He has just enjoyed incredible success. I have spoken to Sammy on several occasions recently and know that he has a tremendous relationship with Peter Taylor and Dave Sexton.
"I know he will bring more vital components to our team and I'm very much looking forward to working with him."
