Chester born Boyes signed his first professional contract for Liverpool on 30 May 2019. The Welsh U-19 international has been at the academy since U-11 level. Boyes moved to Neil Critchley's U-23 side before the 2019/20 season and was one of several debutants in the Carabao Cup game against Aston Villa on 17 December 2019 while Liverpool's protagonists were otherwise occupied in Qatar featuring in the Club World Cup. Boyes was unlucky to score an own goal via a deflection on his Liverpool debut following in the footsteps of the likes of legend Gerry Byrne in 1957 and goalkeeper Frank Lane in 1972.

Boyes was loaned to Fleetwood Town for the 2020/21 season. However he played just twice early in the season and he featured in only two matchday squads from October onwards. He was recalled in January and was a regular in central defence for Liverpool Under 23's for the second half of a season in which a defensive crisis saw regulars Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams step up to the first team squad. On 4 January 2022, Boyes joined Scottish Premier League side Livingston on a free transfer. He scored once in 35 appearances over the next season and a half and joined Inverness CT on loan for 2023/24. Although it was not a bad season on a personal level as Boyes scored three times in 25 appearances, Inverness were relegated to Scottish League One. He remained in the Scottish Championship for 2024/25, agreeing a one year deal with Greenock Morton. He had solid season there and in May 2025 signed a two year contract with St Johnstone, who had just been relegated from the Premier League and were preparing for their first season in the second tier since 2009.
