Player profile

Although Dabbs made the line-up for the opening day of the 1933/34 season, that appearance at Wolverhampton was the defender's only one of the League campaign and he had to wait until April 1935 before being selected again. It wasn't until the 1936/37 season that he received an extended run in the side, at left-back, figuring in 32 of the last 36 matches with former England captain, Ernie Blenkinsop, unavailable through injury. Dabbs played in six consecutive first division fixtures early in the 1937/38 season but after he conceded an unnecessary penalty in the home derby with Everton on 2 October 1937 he was not chosen again. Dabbs joined Watford in Third Division South in the summer of 1938. Ben Dabbs' mother and England's captain Billy Wright's grandmother were sisters.
