Owen in brain scan fear

It has been revealed that Michael Owen had two brain scans and feared that he could have had a blood clot.

The England striker had two scans in 24 hours after being knocked unconscious in Liverpool's 4-0 win over Derby last month. He said: 'It was scary. I was kept in hospital for observation and had a brain scan. There was some bruising and fluid underneath my skull and there was some concern it might be quite serious. You expect kicks and bruises as a player but when it comes to damage to the head it starts to get really worrying.'

Owen needed 13 stitches after being accidentally kicked in the head by Derby's Chris Riggott but has now been given the all-clear.

He said: 'I'm back in training and I will be fit for Liverpool's UEFA Cup game this week.'

The initial scan on Owen at a hospital in Derby showed no cracks to his skull but he still had to endure a second scan at Liverpool hospital the following day to ease fears of serious injury.
