From Kenny Dalglish's diary

From Kenny Dalglish's diary: "The same team and same two substitutes named for our opening game at Arsenal were on duty at Coventry today. Steve Nicol, who clinched that late victory at Arsenal, gave us a great start by putting us ahead after 19 minutes. He scored again five minutes into the second half, his third goal in our first two League games. John Aldridge’s penalty made it 3-0 after 52 minutes – his thirteenth goal in twelve starts – and Peter Beardsley scored a well-taken fourth. Cyrille Regis hit a memorable consolation goal for the FA Cup holders a minute from time, an indication that the entertainment level was maintained right to the end.

We have got to be pleased with six points from our first two games, both away, and Coventry manager John Sillett said our performance was probably the finest he has ever seen in the First Division. But we’re not getting carried away. A very heart-warming aspect of the afternoon was the way in which the large number of Liverpool fans who travelled to Highfield Road gave tremendous vocal support to John Barnes and Peter Beardsley. Both players told me afterwards that it gave them a great lift and that they are now bursting to make their Anfield debuts as Liverpool players. But we’ve got one more away-day before that.
