Star finder file

Jamie Redknapp was spotlighted in Shoot's star finder file in 1990.

Young Bournemouth midfielder Jamie Redknapp will have more reason than most to make his father proud this season. His dad Harry is the boss of the Cherries. Jamie has all the qualities to make an impact in the game. He is skillful on the ball, possesses a powerful shot and is physically strong for a 17-year-old.

He played his first League game as a substitute at Hull and after a couple more appearances as sub made his full debut on April 11. And just to keep the family connections going, the game was at West Ham, dad Harry's former club.

Jamie emerged through the junior ranks at Dean Court and his form for Bournemouth reserves has already attracted the attention of Liverpool. He had trials at Anfield last season and the merseyside giants were keen to sign him during the close-season. He was even asked to play in Kenny Dalglish's recent testimonial match. But Jamie decided to stay at Bournemouth and gain experience in the lower divisions rather than risk being swallowed up at a bigger club.
