Player Profile
Bootle boy Hughes made Liverpool sit up and take notice when he won the Prince's Park league title with Bootle amateur side Hertford Albion. Hughes played 15 games for Liverpool during the first decade of the twentieth century, but as these were spread over five seasons he was never a regular member of the first team during any of those years. Most of his appearances came as a replacement for the regular left and right-half pairing of that time; Maurice Parry and James Bradley. Hughes once had the misfortune to break his forearm when playing for Liverpool, but he did not know until after the game that the injury he had sustained was a fracture. After leaving Liverpool Hughes made 209 appearances for Crystal Palace in the Southern league from 1909 - 1920 and was one of the key players in the London team. Hughes kept fit in the summer months by featuring for the Bankhall P.S.A. team in the Church Baseball League.
