A former Italian u-20 and u-21 international 'keeper who was loaned to Liverpool from Sampdoria in the January 2007 transfer window. He had made his u-21 debut for Italy against Luxemburg on 12 December 2006, coming on as a substitute in a game that turned to be his only one on that level. Padelli returned to Sampdoria after conceding two goals in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Charlton in the last league game of the 2006/07 season that was furthermore Robbie Fowler's last appearance for the club. Parent club Sampdoria continued to loan Padelli to other Italian clubs, but only at Avellino did he play more than ten times. Padelli was loaned to Udinese in the 2011/12 season at the end of which he made a permanent move to the club from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. He featured against Liverpool in the last game of the group stage of the Europa League on 7 December 2012. He conceded one goal to Jordan Henderson but made two tremendous close-range saves from Luis Suarez.

Padelli played in nine Serie A matches for Udinese in 2012/13. Although he played against Liverpool in Italy, he was only an unused substitute when his current club met his former club at Anfield in October. The goalkeeper moved to Torino on a free transfer towards the end of May 2013. He played in all 38 league matches for his new club in 2013/14 and a seventh-place finish was good enough to qualify for the third qualifying round of the Europa League. He conceded 48 goals in the 38 league matches. In September 2014-15 he was called up to the Italian national squad for the first time for a friendly against Holland although didn't feature in the game. Padelli remained Torino's number one in 2015/16 but after two games of 2016/17 he lost his place and he left on a free transfer to Inter Milan at the end of the season. He's had to be content with being the backup keeper there, spending every minute of the 2017/18 Serie A season on the bench and playing one game in the Coppa Italia. It was exactly the same domestic scenario in 2018/19, added to a further ten unused substitute appearances in the Champions League and then the Europa League. In 2019/20 Padelli did play three times in Serie A and even managed a red card whilst on the bench, being sent off for insulting the referee during a defeat a Juventus. He also earned  a runners up medal in the Europa League, being on the bench for Inter's loss to Sevilla in the final. 

As third choice keeper for Inter in 2020/21 Padelli made just one sub appearance, coming on for the second half in the final home game of the season against Udinese who he joined on a free transfer in the summer. He was again back up keeper there, making three Serie A appearances in 2021/22. Over the following two seasons he only make one cup appearance.
