Player Profile
Harold Wadsworth’s older brother Walter was already at Anfield when he arrived in 1918 but Harold found stiff competition for his left-wing position from Albert Pearson and was restricted to just nine League appearances in his debut season. He was selected more frequently in 1920/21 and was applauded for his “splendid turn of speed” on his reintroduction into the side but his fault was still said to be “a desire to delay crossing the ball which allows a defence to take up position again.” He only made four League appearances during the two seasons when Liverpool first won and then retained the League title. Wadsworth played mostly on the right wing in 1923/24 which proved to be his last season as a Liverpool player. Wadsworth was an ever-present in Leicester’s team that won the Second Division. After 106 games and seven goals for the Foxes he left for second division Nottingham Forest in April 1927. Wadsworth played 35 games and scored ten goals before helping Millwall establish themselves in the Second Division for three years.
