Player Profile
Midfielder Campbell featured in 13 matches in Shankly's inaugural season as manager in 1959/60. His playing career was cut short by injury soon after his thirtieth birthday. Campbell embarked on a colorful managerial career in 1976 when he was George Best's manager at Fulham. He was sacked in 1980 but made Portsmouth third division champions three years later. Following a spell in Kuwait from 1985-1986 he was appointed as John Hollins' assistant at Chelsea in the 1987/88 season. When Hollins was dismissed Campbell took over as caretaker manager but was unable to save the London club
from relegation. Campbell was hired full-time and Chelsea won the Second Division and finished fifth the following season. Campbell was sacked when the team failed to live up to expectations in the 1990/91 season.
He moved again to Kuwait in 1993 where he stayed one year. After retiring Campbell lived a short walk from Stamford Bridge and was often invited to games by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. Bobby died on 6 November 2015.
