Player Profile

Freddie Woodman arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2025, joining on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Preston North End. At 28, he brought with him a wealth of experience from the Championship, where he had consistently impressed with his shot-stopping ability and composure. A product of Newcastle United’s academy, Woodman had previously represented England at youth levels, notably winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017, where he earned the Golden Glove award. His early promise saw him gain valuable first-team experience through loan spells at several clubs, including Swansea City, where he was a regular starter in back-to-back play-off seasons.

After moving to Preston in 2022, he established himself as the club’s number one, making over 100 appearances and playing a key role in their defensive setup. His performances during the 2024/25 season, including 12 clean sheets, caught the attention of Liverpool, who were looking to strengthen their goalkeeping depth. At Anfield, Woodman was signed as experienced backup to Alisson and newly acquired Giorgi Mamardashvili, offering a reliable, homegrown option between the posts.
