Federico Chiesa, son of former Italian international Enrico Chiesa, began his professional career at Fiorentina, where he quickly established himself as one of Serie A's brightest young talents. His pace, dribbling skills, and ability to score goals caught the attention of several top European clubs and it was Juventus who came calling in the end. During his time at Juve, Chiesa showcased his potential on the grandest stages. He played a crucial role in Juventus’ 2020/21 Champions League campaign, scoring vital goals and providing assists. Chiesa's standout moment came in the round of 16 against Porto, where his goals almost single-handedly kept Juventus’ hopes alive in the competition.
Chiesa's impact was not limited to club football. He played an instrumental role in Italy’s success at the Euro 2020 tournament, where his performances were pivotal in Italy lifting the trophy. His goal against Spain in the semi-finals and his overall contributions throughout the tournament earned him accolades and recognition as one of the best players in Europe. However, a cruciate ligament injury to his left knee on 10 January 2022 put a halt to his progress and he was sidelined for more or less the rest of 2022, due to his rehabilitation. Chiesa remained a fan favourite at Juventus, known for his resilience, work ethic, and never-give-up attitude, but was deemed surplus to requirements in the summer of 2024 and his move to Liverpool with just one year left of his contract was a fresh start, offering him an opportunity to rediscover his best form in a new environment.
Unfortunately, things didn't work out as planned in Chiesa's first season at Anfield. His lack of a proper pre-season and Arne Slot rarely rotating his starting line-up as Liverpool won the title, meant that Chiesa was limited to just five league appearances, his only start coming after the title was secured. His first goal came against Accrington Stanley in an FA Cup tie and he also came of the bench to score a consolation in the League Cup final defeat to Newcastle at Wembley. Chiesa was not included in the squad for Liverpool's Far East tour prior to the start of 2025/26, with rumours circulating that a transfer was imminent. However, he was still at the club for the start of the Premier League season and was a matchwinning hero in the opening game against Bournemouth at Anfield, coming on as a late substitute to put the Reds 3-2 up with two minutes remaining.
