The Story Of Liverpool Football Club

Football is a very enjoyable sport. So much so that it has been adopted by the whole world and is the most watched sport. In addition to the excitement of football, there is also the excitement of betting, which we can now call it a companion. People have added the excitement of betting to a sport they already enjoy too much. With technology, these bets can now be made within seconds from crypto betting sites. So, why is football such a fun sport to watch? Actually, the answer to this question becomes even simpler when we take a look at the history of football before this. The deep-rooted history of the legendary Liverpool clubs provides us with many answers. Let's take a look.

The story of the foundation of Liverpool F.C. is quite interesting and complex. In 1888, when the English Football League was formed, the first matches were played at Anfield Road stadium. In the first match, the Accrington team travelled to Anfield Road to face Everton F.C, not Liverpool. John Houlding, the owner of the Anfield stadium, was a director of St. Domingo's F.C., as Everton's team was originally known. Houlding was an important figure for the Liverpool area. However, in the following years, disagreements arose between the Everton club and Houlding and Everton left Anfield Road and moved to Goodison Park, on the opposite side of Stanley Park.

At the heart of these disputes was a disagreement between the Everton management over the rent of the stadium and Houlding's desire to sell his own merchandise at the stadium. Houlding was aiming both to make a profit for himself and to make a transfer to the Everton team with the income obtained. However, as a result of these discussions, Everton and Houlding parted ways. Houlding, the owner of Anfield Road, immediately founded a new team on 15 March 1882. Since the name Everton had not yet been officially approved, he named the team Everton F.C., but it was not accepted by the Football Association of England, because the name Everton F.C. was already being used unofficially. In June 1882 the team was renamed LIVERPOOL F.C. Unlike many players who left with Everton F.C., the Liverpool team had to be rebuilt.

There were two prominent Everton directors who decided to stay with John Houlding: Barclay and John McKenna. Houlding gave £500 to McKenna, whom he authorised to make transfers. McKenna, who travelled to Scotland with this money, included many Scottish players in the team. Since most of the surnames of Scottish footballers at that time started with "Mac", Liverpool's nickname became known as the "team of Macs". Liverpool won their first three matches with different victories and scored 7 goals on average. The great tradition in Liverpool's history was started by team captain McVean in the second match. Winning the coin toss in that match, he chose the Anfield Road goal and from that day on, many team captains started to choose the Anfield Road goal in matches.

In the first year of its foundation, Liverpool started to play official matches in the English 2nd League. Liverpool showed a successful performance this season and managed to be promoted to the top league at the end of the first season. However, after the first season, the "Merseyside Reds" were relegated back to the 2nd Division, and in the following season, they were promoted back to the 1st Division. By winning the championship in the 1st League in the 1900/01 season, they started to show that they would have a say in English football. Liverpool reached the final of the FA Cup in 1914, but they had to wait until 1965 to win the trophy. The first derby excitement took place at Goodison Park in the 1894/95 season with Everton F.C. on the other side of the park. Everton F.C. won this match 3-0. However, Liverpool managed to win against Everton for the first time after 6 matches. In the 1897/98 season, Liverpool F.C. won the match played at Anfield stadium 3-1 and the history of the derby literally began.

You Will Never Walk Alone

With the foundation of Liverpool F.C., they shared the same shirt colours as Everton, namely blue and white. However, in 1894 Liverpool started wearing the red shirt and became known as the "Merseyside Reds". For nearly 60 years Liverpool wore the red shirt and white shorts combination, with only the colours of the socks changing from time to time. In 1964, Liverpool legend Bill Shankly entered the dressing room before a match against Anderlecht and gave Ronnie Yeats red shorts and asked him to try them on. When Shankly realised how impressive and intimidating his player looked, he gave Yeats the red socks and the red jersey was revealed.

From this date, the legendary red jersey set was born. In away matches, Liverpool usually wore white shirts and black shorts or all yellow shirts. In 1987, Liverpool used the grey kit for the first time, then switched to the green kit and then to the black and gold kit, becoming the first team in the history of England to receive advertising. Since 1992, Liverpool have had a sponsorship deal with Carlsberg and carried the Carlsberg advert on their shirts for 17 years. This is one of the longest running sponsorship deals in the history of England.
