Premier League

Anfield | Saturday 21 December 2013 at 12:45 UK local time

Liverpool 3 - 1 Cardiff City
Half time 3–0

Notes

  • - Before the start of the press conference at Melwood Brendan Rodgers raised a toast (with orange juice in hand) to: "No Luis Suarez questions."

    - "We were excellent until Suarez showed why he is just about the best player in the world right now." -Cardiff boss Malky Mackay.

    - Luis Suarez was again captain, but handed vice-captain Daniel Agger the captain's armband when he came on as sub.

    - Suarez has scored 10 goals in the Premier League which is a record in a calendar month. He is also the first player to score two goals or more in four games in a row in the Premier League. Mark Viduka of Leeds held the previous record of eight in April 2003.

    - According to Premierleague, com: "Suarez's total of 19 goals in the Barclays Premier League this season is the most at this stage of a season and it is also putting the striker ahead of the rate to become the highest goalscorer during a 38-match season. This joint-record of 31 goals is held by Alan Shearer for Blackburn Rovers in the 1995/96 season and Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United during the 2007/08 season. After 17 matchweeks, Shearer had scored 16 goals, while Ronaldo had 11. The overall record for the most goals in a season is held jointly by Andrew Cole, for Newcastle United in 1993/94 and Shearer, the next season. At his present rate of goals, Suarez is set to eclipse those records, too."
