  • - Referee Fred Kirkham took the players off the pitch after 25 minutes because of torrential rain., During the 13-minute break before play resumed many spectators left the open terracing, jumped onto the pitch and then forced their way into the reserved stand to find shelter from the rain. Although Jack Cox put Liverpool ahead soon after the resumption of play two goals from Adam Bowman saw Blackburn lead at the interval; and a late goal from Bill Davies confirmed Liverpool's second successive league defeat at the start of the season.
