Player Profile

Kerkez was born in Serbia but chose to represent Hungary at international level, reflecting his upbringing and footballing education. His journey has been anything but conventional. Kerkez first came to broader attention while playing in the youth ranks at Rapid Wien, but it was a bold move to AC Milan in early 2021 that turned heads. Although he never made a senior appearance at San Siro, training with the first team gave the young full-back a taste of elite-level football.

Seeking regular playing time, Kerkez transferred to Győri ETO FC in Hungary and then to AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, where he became one of the Eredivisie’s breakout stars, blending fierce overlapping runs with defensive resilience. His pace, stamina, and aggressive style of play drew comparisons to top-tier modern full-backs. In July 2023, Bournemouth signed him, betting on his potential to shine in the Premier League. Despite his youth, Kerkez slotted in with confidence and energy, earning praise for his boldness on the ball and maturity off it. While still raw in moments, Kerkez combined old-school commitment with new-school attacking instincts.

Kerkez joined Liverpool in the summer of 2025 after establishing himself as one of the Premier League's most promising young left-backs. The Hungary international arrived with high expectations following two impressive seasons on the south coast and was quickly installed as Liverpool's first-choice left-back with Andy Robertson left on the bench. Despite featuring regularly throughout the campaign, Kerkez was unable to reach the standards he had set at Bournemouth. He often struggled to impose himself on matches utilising his blistering pace and was less influential in the final third than many had anticipated. His attacking output was modest, contributing just two assists across the season, while Liverpool's inconsistent form limited his opportunities to build momentum. With Andoni Iraola now succeeding Arne Slot, there is hope that the manager who brought the best out of Kerkez at Bournemouth can once again unlock the qualities that made him one of the Premier League's most sought-after young full-backs.
