Player Profile

Right-back Shepherd made his debut for Liverpool on the opening day of the 1948/49 League season and only missed one of the 42 league matches played that campaign. Although he played in the first four games of the following season, Eddie Spicer's arrival on the scene cost him his place. Ray Lambert, who had been left-back, took Shepherd's place in the team and Spicer came in at left-back. Bill's brothers, Arthur and Joe, were both on Liverpool's books in the 1940's. Arthur scored 12 goals in 11 games for Liverpool during the war and was a reserve player from 1946-1949. Bill stayed only one year at Wigan Athletic before becoming player-coach at Runcorn where he also made a short stop.
