Centre-forward Henderson signed from Annbank in August 1893, but only played one game for Liverpool in the Second Division before heading back to north of the border to the town of Broxburn which is situated almost half way between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Broxburn was a thriving mining and oil refinery community where football was a popular pastime for the miners. At one point there were four senior football teams in the area. It was common practice for football agents to come to Broxburn from Edinburgh and the north of England to sign players. Henderson was probably spotted by one such agent as he moved next to Edinburgh Thistle.
