Player Profile

Outside-right Gordon was "sacked" by Everton as it was termed in the papers at the time and offered to neighbours Liverpool who snapped the Scotsman up. Winger Gordon played in Liverpool's first-ever season in the Football League, the victorious second division campaign of 1893/94. He featured in 21 of 28 matches and scored six times as the club went undefeated. Although he played in the opening five fixtures of Liverpool's initial season in the First Division, he lost his place in September 1894 and joined first division Blackburn Rovers the following month.

Gordon replaced Jamie Haydock in the Rovers team prompting one supporter to publically complain that Gordon was basically not fit to tie Haydock's laces. Gordon had scored two goals in 12 games when Haydock reclaimed his place. Gordon refused to play for the reserve team and in May 1895 Gordon was up to no good again and his contract with Rovers was terminated for what was described as "refractory conduct" during a tour of Scotland. Gordon ended up playing for non-league Liverpool South End.
