Player Profile

Burkinshaw's one and only appearance for Liverpool came in a home fixture with Port Vale on 11 April 1955. The centre-half was transferred to Workington in December 1957, for whom he played nearly 300 League matches in Third Division North which became part of the Fourth Division when the League system was reorganised in 1958.  He also made over 100 League appearances for Scunthorpe. However, he is probably best known for his spell as manager of Tottenham from July 1976 until May 1984. He won the FA Cup two years in succession in 1981 and 1982 and the UEFA Cup in his last season as manager of Spurs. He later managed Sporting Lisbon, West Bromwich Albion, Gillingham and Aberdeen.
