Player Profile

Banks played three seasons for Hartford Burdon in the Blythe and District league until he became a professional with Ashington. He was 21 years old when he made his Liverpool debut in the 1913/14 season and played in nine of the final 11 League fixtures, scoring four goals including a brace against Chelsea. He made a further 17 appearances the following season, adding another two goals to his total. Banks' career as a Liverpool player was cut short by the advent of the First World War, but he played on 20 occasions for Liverpool during the war. He signed for neighbours Tranmere Rovers in April 1919 and after only a seven months' stay moved to second division Fulham where he played 43 games and scored 12 goals from 1919-1921. Banks was described as a man of squat build (being 5 ft. 61/2 ins. or 169 cm.) who was more of a linkman than an individual performer.
