Player Profile
Liverpool-born defender Rylands signed professional forms for the club in March 1970 when he was 17-years-old but struggled to force his way into the first-team picture as Bill Shankly continued his rebuilding process in the 70's. Rylands filled in for injured Larry Lloyd when Doncaster Rovers, bottom of the old Fourth Division at the time, arrived at Anfield for their FA Cup third round tie on 5 January 1974. Only two goals from Doncaster-born Kevin Keegan saved the day and by the time Liverpool travelled to Yorkshire for the replay three days later, Lloyd had been restored to his place at the heart of the defence.
