Player Profile

A full-back that later made a career for himself at Brentford, playing 280 matches. Jones was a Welsh schoolboy international who joined Liverpool in 1955, signing professional forms for Liverpool two years later when he was 17-years-old. When regular right-back John Molyneux was unavailable for the visit of Cardiff City a few days before Christmas 1959, Jones stepped in to replace him. The Welshmen won 4-0 but it was a significant day in the club's history as it was the first game Bill Shankly was in charge of Liverpool. Shanks only called on Jones on four more occasions, the only games that Gerry Byrne missed during the club's return to the First Division in 1962/63.
