Player Profile
Jacquet joined Rennes in 2019 and progressed through the youth and reserve sides before making his senior debut against Nice in January 2024. He was subsequently loaned to Clermont Foot, initially gaining Ligue 1 experience before remaining with the club following their relegation. Regular football in Ligue 2 proved valuable for his development, allowing him to become more accustomed to the physical and tactical demands of senior football. Rennes recalled him during the 2024/25 season, and he soon established himself in their defence.
A tall, athletic and right-footed centre-back, Jacquet is particularly strong in the air and comfortable defending aggressively outside his own penalty area. He possesses the speed to cover space behind a high defensive line and generally remains composed when carrying or distributing the ball. His combination of physical qualities and potential made him an attractive long-term prospect, although he arrived in England with comparatively limited experience at the highest level. Jacquet had become a regular starter for Rennes by the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign. Liverpool reached an agreement for his transfer in February 2026, with the defender remaining in France until the summer. His final months at Rennes were disrupted by a serious shoulder injury sustained against Lens in February, which required surgery and ended his season prematurely.
Liverpool formally completed Jacquet’s move on 1 July 2026. He arrived having made 33 senior appearances for Rennes and a further 24 during his loan with Clermont. The France Under-21 international had also impressed at the 2024 European Under-19 Championship, helping France reach the final and earning selection in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament. Still only 20 when the transfer was agreed, Jacquet was recruited as both an immediate first-team option and a defender capable of developing into a major figure at Anfield. His aerial ability, mobility and willingness to defend on the front foot appear well suited to English football.
