Player Profile

Ekitike progressed through the youth ranks of his hometown club, Stade de Reims, where his breakthrough came during the 2021/22 season. His combination of height, intelligent movement became admired as well as his style that blends finesse and physical presence - capable of leading the line, yet also comfortable dropping deep to link up play. Paris Saint-Germain brought him to the French capital initially on loan in 2022, before completing a permanent transfer the following year. However, with PSG boasting a star-studded frontline, regular opportunities proved limited. In January 2024, Ekitike sought more playing time and moved to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga for £14m. His time in Germany offered a new challenge and a fresh environment to develop.

After only one and a half season in Frankfurt and 26 goals later in 64 appearances, Ekitike was sold to Liverpool for £69m with add-ons up to £10m. He is a technically gifted forward with a tall frame that belies his agility. He thrives in one-on-one situations, often gliding past defenders with ease. His instincts in the box and sharp finishing make him a constant threat, while his selfless link-up play adds another dimension to his game. Comfortable operating as a lone striker or in a fluid front three, his versatility and intelligence make him a threat to any opposition.

Ekitike made a blistering start to his Liverpool career, scoring in the opening five minutes of the Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley, the opening goal in the Reds 4-2 win over Bournemouth in their first Premier League game of 2025/26 and the following match at Newcastle. He enjoyed an outstanding first season at Liverpool, quickly establishing himself as one of the team's most exciting attacking players. His pace, intelligent movement and composed finishing made him a constant threat, while his understanding with his fellow forwards developed rapidly. Whether leading the line or operating in a wider role, the Frenchman consistently troubled defenders and looked every bit the long-term successor Liverpool had hoped for.

His superb campaign came to a heartbreaking end against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, when he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon. The serious injury abruptly ended a season that had promised so much and left Liverpool without one of their most dangerous attacking players. With Achilles injuries requiring a lengthy rehabilitation, Ekitike faces 9-12 months on the sidelines, turning his focus from building on an exceptional debut season to the challenge of making a full recovery.
