Player Profile

The Dutchman moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2018 rather than sign a professional contract at Ajax. Hoever had been there since he was 14, joining from AZ's junior set up. The right-back's progress was pretty promising at Liverpool. After debuting for the under-18s in September 2018, Hoever reached a new milestone every month: a U-19 debut in October, U-23 debut in November and promotion to Melwood to train with the first team in December. On 7 January 2019, at 16 years, 11 months and 21 days, Hoever became the third-youngest debutant in Liverpool's history when he came on in the fifth minute of an FA Cup round tie at Molineux. The youngest is Jerome Sinclair (16y, 6d) followed by Jack Robinson (16y, 8m, 8d). In May 2019, Hoever became a European U-17 champion as the Dutch won the title in Ireland.

As the 2019/20 season progressed it was apparent that Welshman Neco Williams was preferred to Hoever as an understudy to Alexander-Arnold with the Dutchman only getting first-team games in the cup competitions. On 19 September 2020 Hoever was sold to Wolves for £13.5 million including 4 million in add-ons and a 15% sell-on clause. He made five Premier League starts that season and four in 2021/22. Still only twenty years old, Hoever was loaned to PSV Eindhoven for 2022/23. After just two starts he was recalled in the January transfer window and loaned to Stoke for the second half of the season. He impressed there and another loan deal was agreed for 2023/24 when he made forty league appearances at right back, left back and in midfield, scoring four goals.

Hoever signed a contract extension with Wolves but despite impressing in pre season, he was loaned to Auxerre for 2024/25. The club explained that regular game time in one of Europe's top leagues would be better for his future development. This move marked his third consecutive season away from Molineux, following previous loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and Stoke City. Hoever had extended his contract with Wolves before the loan, indicating the club's intent to retain him for the long term. At Auxerre, He featured prominently in the first team, making 30 appearances across all competitions as the club secured an 11th-place finish in the league. He started six Premier League games in the first half of 2025/26 before being loaned to Sheffield United for the remainder of the season.
