Bradley Barcola arrived at Liverpool as one of Europe’s most exciting left wingers, having already collected an extraordinary number of major honours before his 24th birthday. Although naturally right-footed, the French international has spent much of his career attacking from the left, where his acceleration, long stride and ability to change direction make him particularly dangerous when isolated against a defender. Born in Villeurbanne, near Lyon, on 2 September 2002, Bradley Jean-Manuel Essolisam Addo Barcola entered Lyon’s academy at the age of eight. He progressed through the club’s youth system and made his senior debut as a substitute against Sparta Prague in the Europa League in November 2021, providing an assist only a few minutes after entering the field. His real breakthrough came during the second half of the 2022/23 season under Laurent Blanc. Barcola went from fringe prospect to regular starter and finished the campaign with seven goals and twelve assists in 31 appearances in all competitions. His 19 direct goal contributions represented an impressive return for a player completing his first full senior season.

Paris Saint-Germain paid a reported £38 million to sign him in August 2023. Barcola initially had to compete with Kylian Mbappé and several other established forwards, but gradually earned a prominent role. His first PSG season produced five goals and eight assists in 39 appearances, while his performance in the Champions League quarter-final victory away to Barcelona demonstrated his potential at the highest level. Barcola’s pace repeatedly troubled Barcelona’s defence and he supplied the cross from which Ousmane Dembélé scored as PSG overturned a first-leg deficit. The following campaign transformed Barcola from a promising winger into one of the most productive attackers in France. He registered 14 goals and ten assists in Ligue 1 during 2024/25 and was named in the division’s team of the season. He also scored twice and created another goal in PSG’s 3-0 Coupe de France final victory over Reims. A week later, he came off the bench to provide the final assist in PSG’s historic 5-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League final. Barcola made 64 appearances for PSG during that extended season, including the Club World Cup, setting a new record for the most competitive appearances by a player representing a French top-flight club in a single campaign.

His progress continued in 2025/26, although fierce competition from Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué limited his opportunities. Barcola made 49 appearances in all competitions during 2025/26, starting 35 times and coming off the bench on 14 occasions. His output consequently fell from 21 goals and 18 assists in the previous campaign to 13 goals and six assists. He nevertheless helped PSG retain both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

Barcola made his senior France debut against Luxembourg on 5 June 2024 and assisted Mbappé within minutes of coming on. Three months later, he scored against Italy after only 13 seconds. It was the fastest goal ever recorded by the French national team and also the quickest in UEFA Nations League history. He represented France at Euro 2024 and became a more important member of Didier Deschamps’ squad during the subsequent World Cup cycle. Barcola scored three goals and supplied one assist at the 2026 World Cup, including a composed finish against Senegal in France’s opening match.

Tall, lean and deceptively powerful once he reaches full speed, Barcola is primarily a ball-carrier rather than a traditional touchline winger. He likes to receive possession before accelerating into the space behind a full-back, but can also cut inside to shoot, combine with a central striker or deliver from the byline. His willingness to run directly at opponents can stretch a compact defence and create space for teammates even when he does not receive the final pass. UEFA recorded him at a top speed of 33.82 km/h during France’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, in which he also completed 92 per cent of his passes. Barcola joins Liverpool just shy of 24 of age with considerable experience: almost 200 senior club appearances, two Champions League winner’s medals and appearances at both a European Championship and a World Cup. His combination of pace, versatility and improving end product made him an obvious candidate to become a central figure in the next phase of Liverpool’s attack.
